JOB FUNCTION – Chemist Based at our R&D Group’s Centre of Excellence for Acrylates and Encapsulation Technologies in Bradford, West Yorkshire, you will be required to carry out routine chemical analyses and related investigative work with a strong emphasis on problem solving and providing technical service support for our polymer products. In addition there will be opportunities to work on R&D projects, support new developments in polymer products and to develop new analytical techniques in particular areas, applying wider chemistry knowledge to support existing and new products/processes. The work is laboratory based, often following established or routine procedures but with some scope to develop new methods and, depending on experience and own personal interest, with the option to develop an expertise in some related specific areas. e.g. LC/LC-MS, GC/GCMS, GPC, rheology, or polymer synthesis/characterisation. You will interact with other R&D / tech support colleagues on site and globally, as well as with staff in production and global business/marketing functions encompassing a diverse range of end uses in personal care, consumer and industrial markets. PERSON REQUIREMENTS – Chemist We must emphasise, we are looking for a chemist who believes their career lies within a laboratory/R&D based environment, not within a commercially orientated function. You will have the full use of an engineering test laboratory, involving the need to design and build test rigs / proto-types to prove design concepts to advance the technology and product design. Fast paced research and proto-type build environment with changing priorities as projects won and design concepts proven or dismissed. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Design Engineer * Assist Engineering Director to lead engineering design and development of new technology products* Drive full life-cycle projects from initial concept to full product development and into manufacture* Develop understanding of technology alongside wider scientific and partner community* Develop rigs and prototypes to validate concepts to move forward the design of technology and product base* Travel to customer sites to assist with the development of customer products (European Travel)* Manage relationships with supplier base for delivery of parts and prototypes* Build CAD models and engineering drawings to international standards* Re-engineering existing technology to suit new applications and or improve existing products* To create solutions to fulfil specific industrial processes as projects are won* Investigate new technology, “blue-sky” projects for use within existing technology REQUIREMENTS - Design Engineer To be successful in your application you MUST be from a new product development background, able to commute to the Sheffield region or prepared to relocate. We are particularly keen to receive applications from individuals who have a genuine passion for engineering; this can be from your personal or professional life.
