Why you should apply:

· Brand-new role through expansion – you’ll join a business that boasts employees with long service. We have great staff retention – people love to work here!
· Challenge yourself as a Mechanical Design Engineer, further developing your mechanical design experience on our bespoke & complex scientific instrumentation. If it was easy, you’d get bored!
· Our existing design engineers have either risen through the ranks (we take on apprentices) or have come from a background of complex high stability systems. You can learn from the best!

Our products are complex scientific instrumentation with an average order value of £250,000. A full system can be worth over £1,000,000. Project cycle times will average 6-18 months & you’ll be working on multiple projects simultaneously. You really will be challenged here as a Mechanical Design Engineer.

Working closely with your Engineering Manager, you’ll be part of an R&D team of 12, including Design Engineer & Project Engineers. Here you’ll provide senior level mechanical design engineering support to that team.

There are junior design engineers who’ll look to you for support. You’ll do hands on mechanical design/3D modelling & design analysis yourself., as well as interpreting customer requirements & validating design proposals for the team.

Your background:

· You’ll need to be an experienced mechanical design engineer. Your design colleagues will be looking to you for leadership, development & guidance to validate their designs.
· We 3D Model here using Solid Edge. If you do too – great! If your experience is with CREO, Inventor or CATIA that’s fine too. We’ll support your training on Solid Edge.
· You’ll have experience of designing complex instrumentation or systems that could include scientific capital equipment, scientific instrumentation, vacuum related products (i.e. pumps), thermal management systems, vibration stability systems or even high precision translations.
· You could be degree educated in Mechanical Engineering or similar, or you’ve gone down the apprentice route (like some of our existing employees) and gained an ONC/HNC with the relevant practical mechanical design experience.

Your additional project engineering skills could include risk analysis, costings, budgetary responsibility, client management, internal/external stakeholder management, internal & customer reviews. It you haven’t got them, but you’re a great mechanical design engineer we will develop your skills.

If you’ve got experience of ANSYS and/or GD&T – that would be great too.
