JOB SPECIFICATION - Service Engineer

This role will appeal to you if you:

·Enjoy travelling for work. Some Service Engineers sit on the M25 all day, you would be travelling to destinations such as Mexico or South Africa in comfort
·Are comfortable with potential long periods away from home up to 4 weeks at a time and understand that you could be away for 50% of the year
·Have a passion for Electrical and Mechanical engineering. You will not be expected to program a PLC, but you should be comfortable fault-finding
·Want to work for an expanding market leading of manufacturer or slitting and rewinding machinery

I know sounds like a cliché, but as a Field Service Engineer; no two days will be the same.

One day you could be testing an assembled machine in the workshop; the next day you could be on the first flight out of Heathrow to the USA for a planned machinery install. Like-wise it could be a planned service trip or an unplanned breakdown anywhere. Just think, once you have completed your training and probation, you could be working on a variety of slitting and rewinding machinery all over the World.

As a Field Service Engineer, you will already know that you are expected to travel, sometimes with short notice, but you will be rewarded with paid overtime and travel/expenses. This could be domestically in the UK, Europe, North or South America or South Africa, and could in some cases extend to the Rest of the World. I estimate you could be away for up to 50% of your working year, with the remaining 50% time being spent at the UK Head office in Ipswich. There are additional Field Service Engineers and Controls Engineers based in the UK and the USA to support you and help your career development.

Being realistic you should expect to spend the first 3-6 months of your new Engineering working life in the workshop; assisting with manufacturing, fitting, assembly and machine testing. Overtime in this period will be minimum or non-existent.

When fully trained and ready for the road/plane you will then move on to the service, breakdown, installation and commissioning of special purpose machinery. Once you are mobile as a Field Service Engineer, there will be travel and you could be averaging 2 weeks of travel per month equating to 50% per annum.

Installation and commissioning work will usually be no longer than 2 weeks depending on the scale of the project and the location.

Travel will be to: Some UK based, European for up to 1 week and North/South America, South Africa and the Rest of the World for 1-4 weeks.

Customer Market base: Predominately for the film, paper and allied web industries

To be successful in your application you MUST have previously worked as a service or maintenance engineer who has worked on special purpose machinery such as: Slitting, converting, printing, labelling, materials handling, flexible packaging machinery etc. There is enough variety there to open up
