Three Critical FMCG Hires Secured in Seven Weeks

Wallace Hind helped an established clock manufacturer recruit a Brand Manager, Senior Designer and Junior Designer through one coordinated campaign.

The Problem

The client initially approached Wallace Hind to recruit a Brand Manager. Within 10 days of the first meeting, the Managing Director was also faced with losing both the Senior Designer and Junior Designer, creating three simultaneous vacancies with very different skill and experience requirements.

The recruitment process also needed to work around three decision-makers: the Managing Director, Head of Sales and Marketing Director. With limited interviewing experience elsewhere in the team, the business needed more than candidate sourcing. It required a structured timetable, clear assessment stages and practical support to keep a high-volume campaign moving without compromising the quality of the shortlist.

The Solution / What We Did

Wallace Hind selected the eSearch model as the most suitable route to market and created multiple job postings tailored to the competencies required for each role. For the Junior Designer position, the brief remained deliberately open, allowing the team to consider candidates ranging from recent graduates to self-taught designers with demonstrable flair and ability.

A disciplined interview timetable was agreed in advance, securing commitment from all three decision-makers. Wallace Hind pre-screened applicants, issued candidate briefs and addenda, and personally interviewed 27 selected candidates before producing a shortlist of five for each position. The team also coached the Marketing Director and Head of Sales on interview technique and candidate engagement, and sat in on their first-stage interviews.

The Result

  1. 527 applications attracted. The multi-role campaign generated a broad candidate pool across the Brand Manager, Senior Designer and Junior Designer vacancies
  2. A structured first review. Wallace Hind pre-screened 61 candidates and issued 48 candidate briefs and addenda, creating a controlled route through the high-volume response.
  3. 27 candidates interviewed by Wallace Hind. Fifteen progressed to the client’s first stage: five Junior Designers, six Senior Designers and four Brand Managers.
  4. Three offers made and accepted. Five final interviews led to an accepted offer for each vacancy by 2 June 2015. The documented process moved from 527 applications on 14 April to three accepted offers seven weeks later.
